FabLab BiH is innovation-driven Research and Technology (RTO) organization that develops innovative and
research platforms with aim to improve research infrastructure, develop cutting-edge technologies, and
accelerate innovation in Bosnia and
Herzegovina (B&H).
FabLab BiH is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental, and
non-political organization.
FabLab BiH explores key transformative technologies from Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0, with focus on
additive manufacturing (AM), artificial intelligence (AI), 3D Bioprinting, augmented and virtual reality
(AR/VR) technologies and fundamentals from the
circular economy concepts.
Our main catalyst partnerships originate from academia and industry, enabling a leveraged impact
and
acceleration of social outcomes and new developments in the digital fabrication field through
connections
with existing, high-capacity
organizations.
FabLab BiH derives mission-oriented research that advances scientific discovery and
technological innovation by creating revolutionary technology platforms in BiH.
Environment for innovation is at the core of our organization, and together with intellectual
property
expertise, it is allowing us to catalyze our activity into prosperity.
We have restructured our growth model to shift, speed and scale towards Industry 4.0 and
5.0
technologies using our unique position at the crossing of tech & industries as the first officially
recognized FabLab in the country
"FabLab
Sarajevo"
Our horizontal growth goal is to establish multiple FabLab spaces across BiH by establishing
cooperation with locally-based partners. New Fab’s would enable students, entrepreneurs, industry in
other
towns to get hands-on latest
hi-tech from digital fabrication, learning experience, improve STEM skills, build supportive
entrepreneurial
ecosystems, develop and launch new products and services in a collaborative, creative and fun
environment.
Association FabLab is formed in January 2020 and is the central body for FabLabs operating in
BiH
and is
officially
recognized by FabLab Foundation and FabLab community. We have strong commitment to equality,
diversity and inclusion, please check our guiding
principles.
We strongly believe that people in BiH are the main actors in their development, favoring the capacity
building and bottom up approach over substitution and contribution to citizens life quality over
practices that are not sustainable in the long term.
We aim to provide sustainable, innovative responses to the challenges of technology and community
participation inaccessible environment in BiH.
Mission: Provide space, equipment, and programs that develop local
industry, boost entrepreneurship, provide a hands-on learning experience, and increase interest in
STEM education.
Vision: To be a national reference center for digital fabrication that
will contribute to the creation of an open and stimulating environment for the development of
digital skills, knowledge, and entrepreneurship
of all citizens in BiH.
What we stand for: To make science and innovation open to everyone.
We want to encourage the growth of the tech, educational and creative sectors in BiH by helping to develop vital skills for the future and support the well-being of everyone.
“Give ordinary people the right tools, and they will
design and build the most extraordinary things.”
That’s the idea behind Fab Labs, which originated in 2001 at Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Center for Bits
and Atoms by Professor Neil Gershenfeld .
A FabLab, or digital fabrication laboratory, is a place
to play, to create, to mentor
and to invent - a place for learning and innovation. FabLabs are also known as Urban or Industry Innovation
labs.
The Fab Lab Network is an open creative community of fabricators, artists, scientists, engineers, educators,
students, amateurs and professionals located in more than 100 countries and 1,800 Fab Labs across the globe.
From community based labs to advanced research centers, Fab Labs share the goal of democratizing access to
the tools for technical invention. This community is simultaneously a manufacturing network, a distributed
technical education campus,
and a distributed research laboratory working to digitize fabrication, inventing the next generation of
manufacturing and personal fabrication. The Fab Lab Network is an open creative community of fabricators,

Formed in 2009 to facilitate and support the growth of the international fab lab network as well as the development of regional capacity-building organizations. The Fab Foundation is a US non-profit 501(c) 3 organization that emerged from MIT’s Center for Bits & Atoms Fab Lab Program. Our mission is to provide access to the tools, the knowledge and the financial means to educate, innovate and invent using technology and digital fabrication to allow anyone to make (almost) anything, and thereby creating opportunities to improve lives and livelihoods around the world. Community organizations, educational institutions and non-profit concerns are our primary beneficiaries.
Fab Academy is an intensive five-month program that teaches students to envision, design and prototype
projects using digital fabrication tools and machines. It is a multi-disciplinary and hands-on learning
experience that empowers students to learn-by-doing
and inspires them to make stuff locally to become active participants in sustainable cities and communities.
At the Fab Academy, you will learn how to envision, prototype and document your ideas through many
hours of hands-on experience with digital fabrication tools. We take a variety of code formats and turn them
into physical objects. The
Fab Diploma is the result of the sum of Fab Academy Certificates. Progress towards the diploma is evaluated
by a student’s acquired skills rather than time or credits.
The Fab Academy is a fast paced, hands-on learning experience where students plan and execute a new
project each week! Each individual documents their progress for each project, resulting in a personal
portfolio of technical accomplishments
The course is estimated to cost US$5000, but varies with location and available scholarship
opportunities. All course materials are publicly archived online here.
