The Kawa – Biodegradable Coffee Cups project was implemented by FabLab BiH in collaboration with Kawa d.o.o., aiming to create a sustainable, food-safe alternative to conventional disposable cups. The innovation lies in using biological waste from coffee production as the primary material.
FabLab conducted material analysis and selected 3D printing as the optimal method for shaping and producing the cups. The final product is capable of withstanding temperatures up to 110°C, fully meets food safety standards, and adheres to principles of circular economy and waste valorization. The project concluded with validation and testing, confirming that the developed cup solution aligns with the requirements of modern eco-conscious consumers.
